Background

Our client is a global hospitality business with around 2000 employees in the UK. It has engaged EML on a retained basis for more than 15 years to provide advice and support to its UK HR team on complex HR and Employee Relations issues.

Problem

EML has advised this client on a whole range of Employment Law issues, including:

  • Transfers of Undertakings (TUPE) implications in respect of the purchase of new restaurants
  • Company re-organisation and re-structure
  • Collective Consultation in respect of large scale redundancy situations
  • Issues relating to franchisees and concessions
  • Implications of new legislation regarding tips and gratuities, including assisting with the revision of current policies
  • Complex disciplinary situations
  • Disability discrimination and reasonable adjustments
  • Legislation in Republic of Ireland.

Solution

The client has both a designated Client Manager and Employment Law specialist at EML with whom its HR team has developed close working relationships over many years. Members of the clients HR team will routinely contact EML with more complex issues or if they just feel the need for a sounding board.ย EML knows the clientโ€™s working environment inside out, and provides sound, pragmatic and commercially-focused advice which is tailored to the clientโ€™s working environment. ย

Outcome

The clientโ€™s business model has undergone significant change in recent years,ย but it continues to rely on EML for Employment Law advice and support. It has also been keen to promote EMLโ€™s services to its expanding network of franchisees.
