During summer last year, the Chancellor announced a new employer initiative ‘The Kickstart Scheme’ aimed at supporting unemployed young people. Those aged 16-24 on Universal Credit would be provided with a 6 month paid work placement that would set them up with the experience needed to get them back on their feet and in the direction of a future career.
The Kickstart Scheme is an opportunity for YOU to recruit the latest talent and grow your business, all fully subsidised!
So how can EML help you with the Kickstart Scheme?
One of the conditions employers must satisfy to make use of the Kickstart Scheme is to provide Employability Training and as part of the application process, you must outline:
-
- What support will be offered
- At what stage in the placement, you’ll provide it
- How much time it will involve
- Who will provide the training
At EML, we have an experienced Employability Coach within the team who is on hand to provide guidance on:
-
- Job search
- CV writing and how to stand out from the crowd
- How to use social media correctly
- LinkedIn personal branding
- Interview preparation
- Behaviour and conduct on the workplace
All of the above is covered in a half-day session at the start of the placement, with a further half-day session taking place midway through the placement. This will act as a refresher and features a specific focus on interview techniques (including a mock interview tailored to the young person’s particular area of interest).
